WinRAR won the Epsilon Award 2008

Berlin, Germany - win.rar GmbH’s WinRAR was named the winner of the 2008 Epsilon Award at the eighth annual European Software Conference. Each year, The Epsilon Award recognizes the best software application from the European software and microISV community. Programs are nominated and voted on by software developers, a peer-review process that ensures that only the highest quality software is considered for the award.

WinRAR is a powerful compression tool with many additional integrated functions to help organize compressed archives. By consistently creating smaller archives, WinRAR is often faster than the competition. This saves disc space, transmission costs, and valuable working time.

WinRAR supports all popular compression formats, including RAR, ZIP, CAB, ARJ, LZH, ACE, TAR, GZip, UUE, ISO, BZIP2, Z and 7-Zip. It’s easy to split archives into separate volumes, making it convenient to save them on several disks.

The program’s special compression algorithm for multimedia files results in extraordinary compression of movies, music, executables, and object libraries. WinRAR automatically recognizes and selects the best compression method.

With its emphasis on security, WinRAR is designed for sending compressed data through the web. Its 128-bit password encryption and its authenticated signature technology provide security and peace of mind.

New features in version 3.80 include added support for ZIP archives containing Unicode files names in UTF-8 format, as well as Unicode support for RAR and ZIP archive names. There is added decompression support for WinZip AES encrypted ZIP archives. “Ask before overwrite” and “Skip existing files” update modes are now available in the archiving dialog.

WinRAR runs under Windows, and costs $29(US) for a single-user license.

The WinRAR Value Pack, which includes physical delivery on CD and the Gold Support Package, costs $46.24. For more information, or to download a 40-day trial version of WinRAR 3.80, visit www.win-rar.com.

win.rar GmbH has donated the cash portion of the Epsilon Award to Wikiwoods - www.wikiwoods.org - a nonprofit organization run by volunteers who are dedicated to growing the largest woods in the world. Founded in 2007, they have already planted 11,000 trees.

The ninth annual European Software Conference will be held November 7th and 8th, 2009 in Berlin, Germany. Additional information about the Epsilon Award, and about the European Software Conference, can be found on www.euroconference.org or www.microisv.eu.
