Compressing Files with Pocket RAR
First, you need to run Pocket RAR by double-clicking on the Pocket RAR icon in your Program Folder. You can also start it directly from the Windows "Start menu", but you need to have added Pocket RAR to the "Start menu" beforehand.
Please change it to Pocket RAR if it is already started.
You need to go to the folder, which contains the files to archive by using the Pocket RAR file management.
Select the files and folders which you would like to compress.
Press “Ctrl” on the keyboard to mark more than one file or folder, or press “Shift” on the keyboard to mark the beginning and ending of the files or folders you want to compress. You can also mark all files and folder in the current directory by using the “Select All” button from the File menu.
There are several ways to compress the marked files:
- Tap on the book icon
- Choose “Add” from the Tools menu
- Tap on the marked files and choose “Add” from the displayed menu
Pocket RAR will then display the archiving dialog with the default settings
Then follow these steps:
1. Pocket RAR suggests a name for the archive based of the folder or file name, which will contain the selected files. You can change this name and can add also a path. 2. Choose the type of archive format. Choose RAR for better compression, stronger encryption or multivolume archives. Choose ZIP for faster compression speed and lower memory requirements. 3. Check the "Delete files" option if you wish to remove files after archiving. |

4. The "Solid archive" option is available only for RAR format. It can raise the compression ratio by 10% - 50% over more common methods, particularly when packing a large number of small, similar files. 5. Choose a compression method. The "Good" and "Best" methods provide better and slower compression. In RAR format they may require more memory. The "Fastest", "Fast" and "Normal" methods take less time to compress, but usually archive at a lower compression ratio. |
6. The Volume size option is available only for RAR format. If you wish to split a created archive to several files, enter the size of each single part here. By default it is entered in bytes. It is also possible to select the volume size from the list associated with this item. |
| |
| 7. If you wish to password protect your archives then press the "Password..." button and enter a password to encrypt the archived files. |
After you have set all required options, press the "OK" button to start archiving. |
