Highlights of the 3.0 release:
RAR compression algorithm further improved!
A special algorithm for text data and special preprocessing algorithms for 32-bit x86 executables, Itanium executables, true color data, audio data and tables is added to WinRAR. In many cases this significantly increases compression. The dictionary size is increased to 4 MB, this helps to increase compression on large data sets. Now RAR chooses the best combination of algorithms automatically.
WinRAR offers more security for your data!
WinRAR offers you the benefit of industry strength archive encryption using AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) with a key of 128 bits. Now you encrypt both file data and file headers, so such information as file names, sizes, comments will not be visible without a password.
To reconstruct missing files in a multi-volume archive, so called recovery volumes (.rev files) are added. RAR and WinRAR automatically use .rev files to reconstruct missing volumes when unpacking or testing a volume set.
WinRAR is easier to use!
The new "Wizard" mode allows instant access to the basic archiving functions through a simple question and answer procedure. This avoids confusion in the early stages of use.
WinRAR supports more archive formats!
ISO9660 (.iso) file format added , which is widely used to store CD images. WinRAR is able to browse and unpack contents of ISO files. WinRAR also supports Joliet extension of ISO9660 and displays long file names inside of Joliet CD images.
WinRAR sends archives directly by email!
Now you can send your archives directly by email with WinRAR. A "Compress and email" was added to the Explorer context menu to further speed up working.
WinRAR offers more options for self-extracting (SFX) archives!
Windows SFX modules now support archives larger than 4 GB and Unicode names; It is now possible to replace the standard SFX icon with your own. Now you can create shortcuts to unpacked files on Desktop, Start Menu, Start Menu/Programs or Startup.
More and more functions integrated!
WinRAR now allows to test files after archiving and provides two new file time selecting modes for your backup. New visual styles of Windows XP controls integrated. You can change the order of toolbar buttons and many more.
